The Gedeo Zone Diaspora Association has organized a program for the rehabilitation of the affected people in the zone’s Racho Woreda. The administrator of Gedeo zone Zinabu Wolde (Dr.) has received Gedeo zone diaspora members from different countries in his office and briefed them on the general works that are being done in the zone. Dr. Zinabu, who said that thirty nine houses have been built to rehabilitate the people affected by the accident, explained that the construction of houses for all displaced people is being completed by mid October. Gedeo General Administrator Zinabu Wolde (Dr.) and members of the association have started the construction work. Gedeo zone diaspora association’s chairman Henok Tadesse (Dr) stated that the diaspora association has opened a “Go fund me” account for the victims by buying one thousand eight hundred house tins and sixty five packs of nails to build forty five houses. Dr. Henok, who said that such support will continue to be strengthened, has confirmed that the association will participate in various developmental works and other issues. Dr. Zinabu who said that the support given to the victims will continue to be strengthened besides building houses for the victims. He thanked the members of the diaspora for the support they have done to rehabilitate the victims. በተጨማሪም ማሕበሩ ከተቋቋመበት May 25, 2005 ጀምሮ የተሰሩ ስራዎችን ያቀረቡ ሲሆን በተለይ

President Tilahun Kebede consoled the people who were affected by the landslide accident that happened in Gedeo zone, Racho woreda. He also met with those who were injured in Charaka and Haro kebele.
The landslide accident that occurred in the area for two consecutive days has caused a lot of damage to people’s lives and property. The head of administration visited the accident site and consoled the families who were affected by the accident, expressing deep condolences for the lives lost.
The regional government, in co-ordination with the zone administration, has pledged to solve the problem in a sustainable way by providing necessary assistance to the people affected and ensuring a quick response in the area.
Administration head Aklew stressed that precautionary measures already in place should be continued to prevent further damage due to heavy rainfall. He noted that due to climate change, unusual rainfall has been recorded across different areas, leading to similar accidents. The public is urged to take precautions in vulnerable areas.
The government has begun activities to temporarily house displaced people in schools and relocate communities at risk to safer areas. Preventive measures are also being strengthened.
Apart from the head of administration, other senior officials of the region also attended the scene and expressed their condolences to families who lost relatives and friends in the landslide.
